Send Help Movie Review
Described as a “horror version of Cast Away meets Misery,” the film follows a deadly power shift between two coworkers:
The Setup: Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) is a mousy, overworked strategist at a financial firm who has been passed over for a promotion by her entitled “nepotism-baby” boss, Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien).
The Incident: While on a business trip to Thailand, their private jet crashes into the ocean, leaving Linda and Bradley as the only survivors on a remote, deserted island.
The Twist: While Bradley expects Linda to continue serving him, it is revealed that Linda is a survivalist fanatic who has auditioned for the show Survivor multiple times.
The Shift: As nature strips away Bradley’s corporate authority, Linda realizes she has no desire to return to a world where she is invisible. The “survival” aspect turns into a psychological battle of wits and gore as Linda begins to treat the island—and Bradley—as her own personal game.
Quick “Review” & Critical Buzz
The film has opened to positive reviews, currently holding an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Rachel McAdams’ “Action Era”: Critics are calling this McAdams’ most “unhinged” and “grey” role yet, praising her transformation from a meek office worker to a formidable warrior.
Raimi’s Signature Style: Fans of Drag Me to Hell and Evil Dead will recognize the “Raimi-cam” movements, dark slapstick humor, and visceral, blood-soaked practical effects.
Chemistry: The tension between O’Brien and McAdams is the film’s driving force. O’Brien is noted for playing a “villain you love to hate,” while McAdams plays a “hero you might actually fear.
